Nadia Duthoo, an artist from France, joined Art Print Residence for an artist residency in January 2026.
During her stay, Nadia focused on a large-format woodcut project, working on fir woodblocks. The residency gave her the opportunity to develop her work on a larger scale and to explore the expressive possibilities of relief printmaking.
Throughout the process, she worked on the different stages of creating a woodcut: preparing the wooden surface, transferring and developing the image, carving the blocks, experimenting with tools and textures, and preparing the matrices for printing.
Working on large-format fir woodblocks allowed Nadia to explore the relationship between the natural characteristics of the wood, the carved marks and the final printed image. The grain and texture of the material became an integral part of the creative process.
Her residency at Art Print Residence provided dedicated studio time and access to a professional printmaking environment, allowing her to concentrate on the development of her personal artistic project while experimenting with the technical and creative possibilities of contemporary woodcut.
