Welcome to Art Print Residence!

We are delighted to welcome Nina Vigilante from the United States to Art Print Residence for her residency this July 2026.

Nina joins us from Denison University (Ohio), where she is developing her artistic practice. During her stay, she will work as a studio assistant, gaining hands-on experience in the daily life of a professional printmaking workshop while learning the traditional techniques of copper etching (intaglio) under the guidance of Ariadna Abadal.

This residency offers a unique opportunity to combine practical studio experience with technical training, artistic research, and creative exchange within our international printmaking community.

We are excited to accompany Nina on this new chapter of her printmaking journey and look forward to sharing her progress over the coming weeks.

Þuríður Ósk Smáradóttir

In April 2026, Icelandic artist Þuríður Ósk Smáradóttir completed an artist residency at Art Print Residence, where she focused on expanding her printmaking practice through an intensive exploration of hard-ground etching and the expressive possibilities of à la poupée printing.

Throughout her residency, Þuríður investigated the relationship between line, texture, and colour, developing a series of copper plate etchings while experimenting with the subtle nuances of selective inking. Working with the à la poupéetechnique allowed her to apply multiple colours to a single plate, creating rich tonal transitions and unique, hand-crafted impressions in which every print became an individual work.

Under the guidance of Jordi Rosés, the residency combined technical instruction with artistic research, encouraging experimentation and a deeper understanding of traditional intaglio processes. Through daily work in the studio, Þuríður refined her etching techniques, explored different approaches to plate preparation and printing, and expanded the visual language of her practice.

Her time at Art Print Residence provided an inspiring environment for creative exchange, technical development, and focused studio work, culminating in a body of prints that reflects both precision and experimentation. The residency offered an opportunity to strengthen her knowledge of traditional printmaking while discovering new expressive possibilities within contemporary intaglio practice.

In April 2026, Art Print Residence welcomed Polish printmaker Kamila Kościańska for a residency focused on the Complete Mokulito Workshop, where she immersed herself in the creative and technical possibilities of Japanese lithography on wood.

During her residency, Kamila completed an intensive programme led by Ariadna Abadal, exploring every stage of the Mokulito process—from preparing the wooden matrix and developing the image to the chemical processing, inking, and final printing. Throughout the workshop, she refined her technical skills while experimenting with the rich textures and expressive qualities that define this unique printmaking technique.

The residency offered Kamila the opportunity to expand her artistic practice through research, experimentation, and close studio guidance. Working within the international and collaborative atmosphere of Art Print Residence, she developed a body of work that reflects both technical precision and creative exploration, while gaining a deeper understanding of contemporary Mokulito.

Her residency concluded with a presentation of the prints produced during the workshop, celebrating the progress of her research and the exchange of ideas that are at the heart of every residency at Art Print Residence.

Suejin Ko and Yael Carola

A warm welcome to artists Suejin Ko and Yael Carola from the United States and Germany, who join us at Art Print Residence for a new residency this July 2026.

Over the coming weeks, they will immerse themselves in the timeless language of hard-ground etching and aquatint, discovering how copper, acid, ink, and paper come together to create expressive and deeply personal prints.

Led by Jordi Rosés, and with the guidance of Ariadna Abadal, this residency is dedicated to exploration, technical mastery, and artistic dialogue. Through each stage of the process—from preparing the copper plates and biting the images to inking and printing—they will gradually transform their ideas into finished works.

We look forward to sharing their creative journey, celebrating each new discovery, and following the evolution of their prints throughout their time at Art Print Residence.

During his residency, Anthony will explore soft ground etching and aquatint etching, developing his artistic practice through research, experimentation, and technical exploration. Working within the inspiring atmosphere of Art Print Residence, he will refine his ideas while engaging in a meaningful exchange of knowledge and creative dialogue.

Art Print Residence is delighted to welcome artist Jo Huntington from Australia for a new residency this June–July 2026.

During her stay, Jo will explore the creative possibilities of combining linocut with collagraph, developing a body of work through experimentation, material exploration, and printmaking research.

Guided by Ariadna Abadal, this residency offers the opportunity to expand artistic ideas, refine techniques, and engage in a rich exchange of knowledge within the creative environment of Art Print Residence.

Italian Artists’ Residency from the Scuola di Grafica di Carrara – April 2026

This April, Art Print Residence had the pleasure of welcoming four talented Italian artists from the Scuola di Grafica d’Arte – Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara: Andrea Spezia, Roberta Stevanin, Lara Lubrano, and Stephania Natolo. Coming from one of Italy’s most respected institutions for contemporary printmaking education, the group joined us for an intensive residency dedicated to hard ground etching, expanding both their technical knowledge and artistic research.

Throughout the residency, the artists immersed themselves in every stage of the traditional intaglio process. Working with copper plates, they explored the expressive qualities of hard ground etching—from preparing and grounding the plates to drawing, biting, inking, and printing. The residency provided an environment where careful observation, experimentation, and craftsmanship became essential parts of the creative process.

Under the guidance of Ariadna Abadal, participants refined their individual approaches while deepening their understanding of the technical and conceptual possibilities of etching. Daily discussions, practical demonstrations, and one-to-one mentoring encouraged each artist to push beyond familiar methods and develop new visual languages through printmaking.

One of the defining aspects of the residency was the atmosphere of collaboration. Working side by side in the studio, the artists shared ideas, compared techniques, and learned from one another’s experiences. This exchange of knowledge and perspectives enriched the creative process, reinforcing the spirit of Art Print Residence as an international meeting place for printmakers.

Beyond the technical training, the residency offered time for reflection, research, and artistic dialogue. Surrounded by the peaceful Mediterranean landscape of Arenys de Munt, the artists were able to focus entirely on their practice, allowing new ideas to emerge through the rhythm of the studio.

The residency concluded with a final exhibition of the works produced during their stay, celebrating not only the completed prints but also the creative journey each artist undertook. The exhibition highlighted four distinct artistic voices united by a shared commitment to the rich tradition and contemporary possibilities of intaglio printmaking.

We are grateful to Andrea, Roberta, Lara, and Stephania for bringing their enthusiasm, generosity, and creative energy to Art Print Residence. It was a pleasure to accompany them during this stage of their artistic development, and we look forward to following their future work as their printmaking practice continues to evolve.

Welcoming Back Salma Abd El Kader from Egypt for Her Third Residency at Art Print Residence

We are delighted to welcome back Salma Abd El Kader from Egypt for her third residency at Art Print Residence.

During this residency, Salma continues to expand her exploration of soft-ground etching, investigating its expressive possibilities through a variety of printing approaches and experimental inking methods. She is also developing a series of large-scale copper plates, pushing her practice towards greater complexity, scale, and technical refinement.

As her project evolves, this residency provides an opportunity to deepen her research into texture, mark-making, and the rich visual language of intaglio printmaking. We are excited to accompany her on this next stage of her artistic journey and look forward to seeing the new works that emerge from her time in the studio.

Welcoming back Micaela Muzi from Argentina for her fourth residency at Art Print Residence.
